During fiscal year 2009, the University of Chicago continued to make progress on implementation of a series of major construction and renovation projects developed through its master planning initiatives. Notably six major projects were completed, while several more entered the construction phase or progressed significantly in the design phase. These projects complement continuing efforts to maintain and enhance the Hyde Park campus while incorporating new strategies to improve operating efficiencies and sustainability.

For fiscal year 2009, the University authorized a combined University and Medical Center capital budget of approximately $356.2 million to support new and ongoing renovation and construction projects, utility infrastructure and landscape projects, and capital purchases of equipment, computer systems, and books. Taken together, these projects support UChicago’s fundamental missions of teaching, research, and patient care.
